EXPLORING the narrow band of forest between the South Pine River and a billabong I found these young Moreton Bay fig trees with exposed splaying roots. They weren't big enough for the branches to extend out dropping their own strange root systems to the ground to support them.
The vegetation was surprisingly green and lush considering the lack of rain that has fallen over this rainy season, and the ongoing heatwave where overnight lows have been as high as 28 degrees. Fortunately a southerly had come through yesterday and the temperature today was only a little over 30 degrees with overnight lows now down to about 21 degrees.
The late afternoon mostly overcast conditions provided perfect lighting to test the new professional standard 6D with 24-105mm lens, in preparation for forthcoming treks.
