STARTING at first light, I initially explored the town centre as it began to wake up, especially the market where people were already setting up their stalls. Upon reaching Obi Obi Creek I crossed the road and followed the Maleny Trail downstream initially passing some shops before entering the bush going around a bend in the creek.
The sky was clear and the air still as I passed some sculptures beside the path before reaching a large grassy area. The path continued following above the creek. I continued following the track as the sun silently rose above the horizon in a golden sunrise brightly capturing the grass blades. A few people were taking their early morning walks.
Shortly after sunrise, I turned off the main track to a platform at the edge of a large waterhole in the creek. This was a good platypus viewing area, but I didn't see any, perhaps they had been flushed out by the recent flooding.
After resting at the platform, I continued following the track as it passed a horse paddock with several horses running on it warming up with the bright morning sun. The paddock was contained in a large meander of the stream, with the track following it. Eventually I left the paddock going into bush for a few minutes before coming back out in the open passing a large golf course. The track descended towards a stream draining from a shallow pond noisy with frogs and toads. The track ascended the side of the gently rolling hill before entering the bush again.
The track continued through the forest until I reached a junction. The narrow side track led to the creek at a small partly overgrown area. I returned to the track and followed it to another junction, with a paved track heading once more towards the stream. It dropped to a bridge across a gully and up to another junction from where an overgrown track led down to the stream at Bullock's Crossing. A lady was crossing over it to head to the nearby Gardners' Falls a little further downstream.
After resting at the crossing for a while, I followed the track back up to the main circuit, which I continued following for a while before reaching some nice boardwalks through the rainforest trees. I doubled back along the track reaching the junction and continuing to follow the track now heading upstream back to Maleny where the markets were now in full swing.
I looked around the market for a while before heading home.
